The Twins are Two!

January 31, 2019 josie azuma

The twins are two! In keeping with tradition, I’m blogging their first birthday party to celebrate (in other words, I’m just now getting around to it haha). For their first birthday, I blogged their newborn shoot.

0015.jpg
0009.jpg
0017.jpg

I knew I wanted their first birthday captured professionally because the photos tell a story so much better than a few phone snapshots with a limited point of view ever could, and, as usual, Lauren Carroll Photography did not disappoint! I love looking back on these photos and remembering the day, with all of our family in town to celebrate. Of course a first birthday is really for the parents, because these guys didn’t know what was going on! First birthdays are really so emotional once you become a mom, because you see your little baby (babies) growing up, and inevitably you start to realize how fast it is really all happening.

I won’t lie, their first year was hard. Having twins isn’t easy on its own, but we had many struggles on top of it, breastfeeding, pumping, formula issues, and many medical complications for them, including ER visits, hospital stays, and tons of doctor’s visits. In comparison, their second year was much easier. Twins get easier as they get older, as they can do more things on their own, communicate better, and play together. We had a better handle on their health, they were in less pain, much happier, and there were far fewer scary moments. Given the struggles we’ve faced and still face everyday, I’ve promised myself (to try) not to be sad about birthdays and milestones. To not mourn time passing but be thankful and grateful for every day they are growing, laughing, happy, and healthy.

So this weekend we will celebrate how far we’ve come in TWO years! I’ve been teaching them for several weeks how to say how old they are and they are catching on! Each day with them gets more and more fun. I never knew how FUNNY someone so little could be. They have such a sophisticated sense of humor and are constantly laughing at each other and making me laugh. One of my goals right now is to implement more Instagram stories of the twins, because some things they do are just too good not to share! Happy Birthday Marion and Minor!

Elizabeth & Patrick | Marche, New Orleans, Louisiana

1214_Reception.jpg

Elizabeth and Patrick were married in late February at Rayne Methodist Church, with a reception following at Marche. This was the second wedding I’ve had the honor of planning for this family, and it was just as much fun as her sister, Susannah’s wedding, the year before. Yes, they planned two weddings less than a year apart!  Since I already knew Elizabeth pretty well from planning Susannah’s wedding, and I knew her parents very well, there was none of the “getting to know your client stage.” I already knew what they liked, how they liked to do things, what they worried about, etc. It was awesome being able to go through this with them a second time, and really enjoy all the time we had together—I think overall there was less stress and worry, seeing that they had just been through a wedding, trusted me, trusted our other vendors, and were pros at this! I think I talked to at least one member of the Howard family at least once a week for close to two years! All that to mean when the wedding arrived, I was especially excited to see these vows, because I truly felt like we were all good friends.

The only one I didn't know well before this wedding was the groom, Patrick. From the first time I met him I could tell he was such a sweet, genuine, and laid back guy, and these two are perfect together!

The ceremony was at Rayne Methodist,  the same church Susannah and Karl had been married in. I loved the look on Patrick’s face when he saw Elizabeth walk down the aisle, and I definitely got a little teary-eyed sending off Elizabeth and her dad, Jonathan down the aisle!

The reception at Marche was a blast! The venue was stunning, with greenery and lighting everywhere, by Poppy & Mint & Luminous Events. Elizabeth and Patrick seemed so calm all day, and were just so joyful and happy. After the party got going, we passed around glow sticks and glowing head pieces, which everyone had so much fun with. By the end of the night, the bride and groom were on the stage dancing. I loved looking through these pictures and reminiscing about how much FUN everyone was having! Truly one of my favorite weddings I’ve been a part of!

Katie & Dylan | The Audubon Tea Room

April 5, 2018 josie azuma
Katie & Dylan New Orleans Wedding Tearoom 67.jpg

Katie and Dylan were married in a dusk ceremony at Audubon Park, with a reception following at the Audubon Tea Room. Katie is probably the most relaxed and calm bride I have worked with. She was so sweet, and I knew the first time I met her that she would be able to truly enjoy her wedding day. I didn’t end up meeting Dylan until their wedding rehearsal. He showed up wearing a white tux with hearts all over it, calling himself the King of Hearts. I was wondering how Katie would react. When she showed up and saw him dressed like that, she just smiled and laughed! These two really are the perfect complement to each other, and seem to have so much fun together.

The ceremony was officiated by Katie’s childhood pastor, and I love when a couple is able to use an officiant that knows them and makes the ceremony personal. The couple was announced into the reception by two of Dylan’s cousins, which was another personal touch.

Everyone had a great time dancing all night in the courtyard behind the Tea Room. Towards the end of the night, Pizza Delicious delivered some pizzas, and that was a big hit. For their exit, Dylan had reserved an Uber Black. When the car didn’t show, despite me calling numerous times that night, I ordered them another Uber. Their second Uber arrived, and although I can’t remember the exact model, it was ridiculously tiny and not at all a wedding exit car. Katie and Dylan thought it was hilarious, and piled into the back of the car with a leftover box of Pizza Delicious. Katie’s mom told me it was perfectly unperfect, just the way they liked things! And their original Uber did show up, just as they were driving away!

Hannah & Christy | Il Mercato, New Orleans, Louisiana

Il Mercato Wedding Planning 160.jpg

Hannah & Christy were married on a perfect day at the end of September. When I first met Hannah she told me their wedding theme would be honey to bee, and that her dad was making a hive to go over the fireplace at Il Mercato. I honestly didn’t know what to picture, and have to admit wasn’t sure how it would look. However, that hive turned out to be so beautiful and entirely different from any backdrop I have ever seen at Il Mercato!

Looking through these pictures I was reminded of how emotional and how much fun their wedding day was. You can see the love they have for each other on Christy’s face during the first look, when Hannah presented her with an original Yankee’s stadium chair, and when Hannah surprised her with a song after their first dance.

Their group of family and friends was so much fun. Some of Christy’s bridesmaids came to me after the ceremony and let me know they had a flashmob planned and wanted to know the best time to do it. I have never seen a flashmob at a wedding (or really anywhere), and didn’t know what to think. This flashmob was amazing. It was hilarious, sweet, and executed in Broadway fashion. The time that went into creating this and practicing this, and the number of friends involved, really blew my mind.

Andre & Andrea | Beauregard-Keyes House, New Orleans, Louisiana

BK House Wedding Coordination 121.jpg

If you think a brunch wedding may be too tame, I have a few words for you- mimosas, Bloody Marys, and day drinking! This was my first true brunch wedding (I’ve done a few day time weddings before), and I’m now a huge fan! Andrea is a planner, and was definitely the most organized bride I have ever worked with, which made my job easy! She and Andre are also two of the nicest people I have met, and I couldn’t be happier for them!

The rain plan all along had been to move the ceremony inside the BK House. Rain was forecast all week, and a few days before the wedding, Andrea changed her mind and decided she wanted to get a tent. Of course, that close to the wedding, and in prime wedding season, all the tents were booked. We both started calling all the companies in town and finally found an available tent, which went up in the back courtyard. It looked like it was going to rain all morning, but nothing ever happened, so the ceremony was able to take place outside as originally planned.

The rain held off for the rest of the day. All the guests moved into the BK House after the ceremony for brunch and mimosas. Once the DJ kicked up, everyone started dancing, and the day drinking continued. These two had a great group of family and friends and everyone was having so much fun! Congratulations to Andre and Andrea!
